Maybe purely barter. Everyone is good at something.  Either direct barter. I need clothes. You make clothes. You need Bread. I make bread. Or barter depot. Every item or taste has a value. Instead of barter barter barter through many steps to get what you need those items or services are “sold” at a depot. I have bread. I need clothes. So and so makes clothes but doesn’t need bread they need a hammer. The blacksmith needs bread. The depot takes my bread and gives me clothes. The depot gives bread to blacksmith who gets a hammer.
